Who are your friends?

Jer. 38:7  When Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern—the king was sitting in the Benjamin Gate.
(read the entire passage- Jer. 38: 1-13)

Who are your friends? H ave you ever stood up for something or did the right thing and everybody turned against you?  That is what Jeremiah did and found himself in deep trouble.  He was arrested and put into a cistern.  He was sinking deeper and deeper in the mud.  Have you ever been in such a place?

One person came to Jeremiah’s rescue.  And it was probably someone he didn’t even know.  He was a person from another culture another race and totally different from Jeremiah.  But yet Ebed-Melech came to Jeremiah’s rescue.

Sometimes we really never know who are friends are until we are in trouble.  And sometimes they can come from people we don’t even know.  We don’t know how Jeremiah might of influenced Ebed-Melech’s life, but somehow he did.  And when the time came for Ebed-Melech to show his friendship; he did at just the right time and helped rescue Jeremiah out of certain death.  So, you never know whom you are influencing.  You may be the one to rescue someone from certain death.  Or, someone you have never known before, an unlikely friend, may be the one to rescue you.

How has God revealed himself to you?

Exodus 6:3  I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name, LORD, I did not make myself known to them.

I was reading this verse the other day, and I was thinking about what name has God revealed Himself to us as.  Has he revealed Himself as provider, healer, peace or some other name?  God has several names that He reveals Himself as in the bible.  And it seems like a just the right time he reveals a different aspect or character of his name.

Looking over this past summer, I was reminded that God has revealed Himself to us in several ways.  His provision and blessings are always at the right time.  Just some of the highlights are that God provided our daughter with a new wheelchair that makes her independent.  We were able to take a nice family vacation, which we haven’t done in several years.  We received a nice check in the mail that was unexpected.  Our home was on the market for less that a month before we had a contract.  And God has made it possible for us to build a new home, even in a recession.

The blessings of the Lord are truly wonderful.  And know matter what your need is, God will reveal himself to you at just the right time and in the right way.  He will make Himself known to you in a special way.
