Why stay here until we die?

2 Kings 7:3-4  Now there were four men with leprosy at the entrance of the city gate.  They said to each other, "Why stay here until we die?  4  If we say, 'We'll go into the city'-the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die.  So let's go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender.  If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die.

You have heard it said that desperate people do desperate things.  I was thinking about that phrase and acertain situation that needs the soverign hand of God involved.  Sometimes we need to have the attitude of these four lepers.  Either we can stay here and die or we can get up and do something.  Perhaps something good will happen to us, maybe God will have favor on us.

There are times in our lives when we need to learn to wait on God and then there are times we need to get up and do something.  We have to have the spiritual sensitivity to know when and what to do.  In this case when these four lepers got up and did something, (2 Kings 7: 5-19) God supernaturally moved in thier behalf and in behalf of the nation.

Is God telling you to get up and do something?  If so go for it.  I believe He will move supernaturally in your situation.

  1. This is something that I struggle with. I have insecurities that I fight every day. The biggest two are the fear of failure and the "I'm not good enough" talk I hear in my head. While I have become more secure with my self since becoming a Christian I find that I still have these struggles. When I step out on faith it is not natural for me it is very hard. I feel like throwing up many times. However, I am learning in those moments to trust in the one that orders my steps.

I can say Amen! to the supernatural hand of God. I have yet to step out on faith by myself. God has always gone before me and unexplainable things have always happened.

  2. I think the key here for those lepers is that they recognized stagnation and death's door when they saw it. Staying spiritually stuck leads to spiritual death. We cannot stay where we are. Either we are growing and moving forward, or we are dying and moving backward. The Christian life is always in progress, moving somewhere. As those lepers agreed, doing anything is often better than doing nothing.

Even when we wait upon God it is not stagnation. It is anticipation, expectation, and is often very active waiting.
